When I was leaving to work yesterday (like everyday) I said "I love you" and "good-bye" to all the kids, but Cole did not give me my usual big hug and kiss.  Instead he looked at me with an expression of shock.

Cole: "You're going to work?!"

Me, wondering why he expected any different: "Well, yes.  I have to go to work, honey."

Cole very sincerely and with concern: "But yesterday you said that you didn't think you could sit through another day of work at the office."

I hadn't realized he was listening to my complaining . . . or that he would take it so literally!
