Keepers
We decided to keep four of the chicks. The others have gone to Cole's classroom. Here is a photo of our girls.

I have given them names, but I don't know if the kids are going along with my choices.
From left to right:
Dixie (chick)
Dagoba (organic chocolate company in Ashland -- for her brown color)
Carmela (Caramel for short -- for her caramel color)
Penelope (one had to be Henny Penny!)
... and what are you going to do with these chicks?? You never cease to amaze... I like the names...
Don't you think every young family needs some pet chickens?
We love our dog, but he has never even laid ONE egg . . .
Seriously, Josh is going to build a coop and we are going to have four friendly chickens in our back yard (unless any of them turn out to be roosters, then we will have that many fewer). We are looking forward to the eggs and Josh is hoping they might help keep pests out of the garden . . . and it is an adventure in our little family life.
Lots of other people are doing it too . . . http://www.backyardchickens.com
I love it... that will be a fun adventure for the kids! Fresh eggs!
I do think every young family needs some pet chickens. I grew up with chicks and chickens in my back yard, oh yes I did. And at about 3 or 4 years old I liked to sneak down and hold the chicks in my lap even though it was forbidden.
Yay for cute, perfectly named baby chicks. Cluck, cluck!
