Boy?
I had my first ultrasound yesterday morning. It was much more fun than I expected. With the other kids I only had one ultrasound at about 20 weeks. Apparently it is now standard for women to have two ultrasounds . . . the one at 20 weeks (when they can determine the sex and all that) and one early at about 12 weeks to verify the due date and make sure all is okay. So I am just over 12 weeks now and thought the ultrasound would be boring . . . the technician measuring everything to make sure everything was okay, but I thought the baby would not be very recognizable. Well I was wrong. Oh, baby! There is a little baby in there! Kicking and sucking its thumb. It looked so babyish . . . not a tadpole or a developing mass of cells, but a baby. I guess it is silly I was so surprised. I guess a few weeks makes a big difference . . . the baby is developing so fast . . . a few weeks ago it would have been the tadpole I expected. Anyway, the even bigger shocker was that she told me the baby is a boy! Usually that is not determined until the 20 week ultrasound, but that is sure how it looked. There is the possibility that the umbilical cord or something tricked us, but that is what she thought -- boy. She said they would confirm at the next ultrasound. I guess it is very unusual to determine the sex at this early ultrasound . . . so we will see. Oh, another fun part was they had the 3D ultrasound. I didn't have that with the other kids. It was fun to see a more 3D view of the baby! Especially with him? moving around so much. Cool stuff.
