Reading Breakthrough

Maisie has had a big reading breakthrough in the last week.  It is very exciting for her.  She has wanted to know how to read for quite a long time (a couple of years) and has been working on it for as long . . . but there were so many things to learn, like recognizing the lowercase letters, knowing all the letter sounds, blending sounds and getting words from that when there are so many exceptions to the rules . . . they work on reading in her Kindergarten class, but she would always get frustrated with we me and herself when it was time to do her reading homework . . . but this last week it all just clicked for her.  She is so incredibly excited, it makes me smile and laugh and tear up at the same time.  She is now reading whole books (Dr. Suess) in bed to herself at night with only a couple of calls for me to help her with a word.  She is using intonation when she reads and understanding the story (not just sounding out each word and missing the point).  She takes each book into school to show her teacher.  She is so proud. :)  This is a big milestone for Maisie.  Yeah Maisie!
