Hunting for Morels

Today we went hiking in the mountains in search of morel mushrooms.  We were not very successful finding morels, but we sure had a good time.  Here are a bunch of pictures from the expedition . . .

Cole and Maisie upon arrival at our "secret" spot . . . note that they each have thier own bags.  We were very hopeful -- each carrying a bag to fill.  They did not get full, but we didn't mind too much. :)

Maisie and Josh are ready to set out.  Note the scarf.  There was still snow up there . . . probably why we didn't see a lot of mushrooms . . .

Looking for the elusive morels . . .

Still looking . . .

Potty break.  Yes, you can see Cole's bottom in this shot.  Josh is teaching him to pee like a man . . .

We didn't see many mushrooms . . . but there were some pretty wild flowers out today!

and frogs!

and a nice view . . .

Lunch break!

Me and Cole pose for a photo.  Note the bag is still empty . . . but we are smiling!  It was a fun day.

This looks like a ton of fun!

Why were you looking for these elusive mushrooms? For cooking? I don't know anything about mushrooms...

Morels are really yummy sautéed -- for a pasta sauce or to top hamburgers. But I think just hunting for them is the best part. It almost feels like you are looking for gnomes or fairies instead of mushrooms.

Ooooh. I'd love to feel like I was hunting for fairies...
